How do I make Spotlight search only for applications on my MacBook Pro?

After you start Spotlight, press Command-1. This will restrict the search results to applications only.

With Tahoe, there is cmd+1 to focus on applications, or if you press cmd+2 for the traditional Files category search, you can use the Spotlight keyword for applications:

kind:app name:sublime

and that will only find the sublime text editor.

For what it's worth, you can always launch Apps from the Dock which will show all your applications, then start typing the letters of the app you want. You can set up a keyboard shortcut to launch Apps if you prefer in System Settings > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts… Spotlight > Show Apps.

I am not sure what you are saying here. AFAICR, also in previous OS the Spotlight search would return multiple results like in Tahoe.

If this is so important, you could try creating a Shortcut like the one below, and assign it its own keyboard shortcut.

All it does is simulate the same effect as pressing Command-Space followed by Command-1.
