Safari crashes on iPad with start page
On my iPad (10 gen, iPadOS 26.1) last night when using Safari, I somehow got the start page. As soon as I did, Safari crashed almost instantly. Searching around has netted little results, with one exception, Safari crashing on load - iOS17 & iPadOS17 - Apple Community from 2023.
Troubleshooting steps taken so far:
- I have cleared safari website data and cache from device. This does not fix the issue.
- I cleared safari website data and cache, shut down and restarted my ipad. Still did not resolve the issue.
- Just for testing reasons I shut off JavaScript from Safari. This also did not resolve the issue.
My only extension turned on for safari was 1Password. I did turn this off in the settings-apps-safari, restarted the iPad. Safari opened without crashing, however, no touching the screen would cause any action, like closing the start tab, or changing tab. Safari will crash again after about 30 seconds. I then have to close the window, restart my iPad and the the same thing will happen.
Any other ideas to try? I do not own a Mac so please only suggestions which can be performed on the iPad or iPhone. Also suggesting to change to another browser is not an option as one of my apps will only download data from Safari.
