Remote volume control not working with HDMI monitor

Volume control doesn't work on remote when monitor plugged in over HDMI.

Monitor doesn't have any volume controls so it blasts at full power.

Is there a way to fix that?

Could one of those HDMI splitters help to trick the Apple TV? I tried one and it only messes up with resolution but doesn't do anything with audio.
