How can I avoid FedEx theft during Apple trade-in?

Fedex

I can’t believe Apple uses FedEx for their trade-in program. FedEx employees along the way know what these electronic devices are boxed in since Apple provides the actual box and shipping label. Thus, when Apple offers you several hundred dollars for your trade-in, after it gets stolen by FedEx, you can file the claim with a lot of work and they’ll give you a $100 check saying that you did not put a value on your shipment. That you get the default $ 100. However, the Apple trade-in box doesn’t have a field or a requirement to put a dollar value on your trade-in. Apple simply trusts FedEx to do their job. A job that unfortunately isn’t done due to employee theft for these boxed digital items which are easy to identify and steal. Next time when I upgrade, I will go to the Apple Store for pick up after I buy it on the Apple Store app at which time I can give my trade-in item without ever having to deal with FedEx along the way.

Taking the device to the store for trade-in is the way to go. Not only do you not have to worry about package theft, but there also is no chance of an unexpected downgrade in value after the condition has been assessed. When you take it to the store you get an on the spot value without any surprises. I would recommend that every time when a store is available close by just for the assurance that you will get the value you expect.

Just read the previous threads and you’ll see that you can order your new iPhone with Apple and have it delivered to your local Apple Store at that time you can arrange for your trade-in at the store. This is a much more secure way than shipping by FedEx in the trade-in box supplied by Apple which makes for tempting theft item within the FedEx shipping system because the box from Apple is easy to identify because of its small size as a valuable electronic item. Trade in iPhones are easy to steal because the phone has been already erased prior to boxing the trade-in phone.
