Does Apple send a 6-digit code for two-factor authentication?

hi, I do not find the email about the activation of my two factors authentication and the only way to know if I had it active for a long time is a 2021 sms I received the day I log in my iPhone with the Apple account (before id Apple) that I was using in the old Iphone. So, please, can someone tell me if Apple sends a code with six Numbers only when you have two factors authentication? Or you can receive a code even without two factors authentication, maybe because you are using the same Apple account in another iPhone so it is consider trusted? Thank you and have a good day

Apple sends codes via SMS as a backup element of their 2-Factor Authentication scheme.

BEFORE 2FA was implemented, SMS codes were also sent as the primary element of their 2-Step Verification scheme.

Both implementations were originally optional.

In the last few years Apple has made 2FA mandatory for new accounts; while “encouraging” all others to transition to 2FA if they’ve not already done so.

Either 2FA or 2SV; although Apple might have additionally used codes to verify phone numbers as well.

If we might ask, why do you need to know?

Because I had seen an e mail about a login in iCloud web and maybe it was me, but I don't remember... but I do know that if my two-factorauthentication has been active for a long time, it was definitely me.

Thank you, so if I understand, the fact that I received a code in 2021 was because I had already two factor authentication? I can’t remember when I activated it:(
