MacBook Air M4 gets hot with multiple apps open

hi, I have only had my Mac for 3 days and only used it for at most honestly less than an hour on the first 2 days and today on the third maybe a few hours to get some work down. I suddenly felt my Mac (air m4, brand new) becoming really hot on the upper keyboard metalish area near the screen (sorry don't know how to describe that area) then I lifted it up and the bottom was hot as well. I had a few apps open (settings, safari, notes and safari) then closed all but safari and temp went down. do having multiple apps open normally make a Mac hot? and I don't mean warm I mean hot like (This might not be a great example especially if you don't play video games) when you play Minecraft on your computer (for me a hp windows) on your lap for like 5 hours. hot. I am using an air so I don't think it has the same fans as a pro but still should it get hot for simple use? I was also using it on a desk, not lap, so that would not have been a reason as to why it got hot.
