Apple Wallet/Pay declines visa for ‘expired card’ but card is valid

My Visa no longer works in Apple Wallet or Apple Pay.

My Visa worked great in the wallet fr 2020 to about Oct 2025 when suddenly it’s declined every time I used Apple Wallet. Decline reason is ‘expired card’. The card has several years left before it expires. The physical card works fine.

Apple support was unable to fix this after several attempts, remove/re-add card, diagnostic, everything. The card issuer claims they’ve had other reports of this issue yet are unable to fix it either!

I’m guessing something happened after Apple’s most recent major update (Oct 2025?) and subsequent update last week didn’t help either. OR it’s an issue with Visa’s own system/wallet/whatever it’s called.

The bank controls their cards once they are added to Apple Wallet. The cards in Apple Wallet typically do not have the same card (account) number, CVV security code or expiration date as the physical card. For example one of my physical cards has an expiration date of April 2026. The card in Apple Wallet has an expiration date of September 2030. It would be unusual for the physical card and card in Apple Wallet to have same expiration date. Has your bank told you that?
