How to sign out of iCloud and reset iPhone without losing AppleCare+ coverage?

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a new iPhone which already has AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss. Before transferring data from my old iPhone, I accidentally signed in to the new device with my iCloud account. Now I want to reset the new iPhone and transfer my data properly, but I’m having two issues:

  1. When I try to sign out of iCloud on the new iPhone, I get this message:“Sign out is not available due to restrictions.”I didn’t turn on any restrictions intentionally, so I’m not sure why this is happening.
  2. When I attempt to reset the new iPhone (Erase All Content and Settings), I see a message saying the following items will be safely removed from this device:

  • Apps and data
  • iCloud
  • Find My
  • AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss

I’m concerned because I do NOT want to lose my AppleCare+ warranty.

Can someone please advise:

  • How do I fix the “restrictions” issue so I can sign out of iCloud?
  • Will erasing the iPhone remove or cancel my AppleCare+ coverage? I want to make sure the warranty stays on my device.

Thank you for your help!

Restrictions -

Turn off Content & privacy Restrictions completely in Settings, Screen Time.

Turn off Stolen device Protection in Settings, FaceID & passcode.

Applecare+

That will come back when you set up the phone with your AppleID again

● If an app or feature on your device is restricted (grayed out), a frequent reason is it may have been disabled using Screen Time, or by a technology administrator if you are using a device owned by an employer or educational institution.

- Read this support article If your Apple ID or other options are greyed out in Settings —> If your Apple Account is grayed out in Settings, or you can't sign out - Apple Support

Tap your Settings app > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > scroll to Accounts > tap Allow Changes and turn on.

- If the device is managed (check: Settings > General > VPN (or Profiles & Device Management), contact the technology department of the organization that is doing the managing.

To test for this, remove the VPN entirely, don’t just turn it off.

Applecare will apply once you are signed in again after setting up the device. If you are using AppleOne, note Legal - AppleCare One - Apple

Some states have a condition where if you sign out of a device for more than 24 hours it loses eligibility.
