USB-C Apple Pencil Bluetooth menu missing rename option

I have a USB-C Apple Pencil (magnetic) paired with my 2025 iPad Air 11” (M3). The Pencil:

Supports hover
Connects and charges normally
Shows battery percentage

Problem:

When I check the Bluetooth menu, the Pencil only shows “Forget This Device”. There’s no option to rename, and no firmware or device info is visible. It does not even show in "Find My"

What I’ve tried:

Leaving it plugged in for 30+ minutes to update firmware
Unpairing and re-pairing the Pencil
Updating iPadOS to the latest version

Has anyone else experienced this issue? How did you fix it?

Any tips to trigger the firmware update or enable the rename option?

While the your Apple Pencil is both paired with your iPad and is active, the hardware and firmware versions are accessed from iPad settings:

Settings > General > Apple Pencil

By example:

The Pencil firmware will update automatically if needed. There is no method by which a firmware update can be manually triggered.

Your USB-C Pencil does not support location via the Fund My App. For Apple Pencil, this feature is only supported by the Apple Pencil Pro.

Similarly, renaming of your Apple Pencil is not supported.
