Alogic 40" Edge 5K/2K monitor scaling with M2 MacBook Pro

I recently purchased the Alogic 40" Edge monitor (hasn't shipped yet) on a Black Friday deal. I originally thought it was a true 5K display, but it turns out to be 5K/2K. My goal was to get a proper 5K monitor to avoid scaling issues with my M2 MacBook Pro—my current 27" 1440p screen sometimes isn’t ideal for my aging eyes.

Does anyone here have this monitor, or another display with a similar resolution, who can share their experience? Alternatively, if you’ve dealt with macOS scaling challenges, do you have suggestions for getting the best results from a 5K/2K monitor? I’ve seen that there are apps for managing display resolution—any recommendations?

On paper, the monitor seems very appealing: the large screen, built-in hub, and a price well below similar competitor models (and for a bigger size). I paid £930, which feels like great value.

The monitor is just for work purposes. Thanks in advance for your thoughts

I’m guessing that you need or want larger text (and objects).

Have you considered getting a 32” UHD 4K (3840x2160) monitor? You could run that in any of three Retina scaling modes (as needed or desired).

  1. ”like 1920x1080” - much larger text and perfect scaling
  2. ”like 2560x1440” - larger text, same workspace, and for most purposes, scaling would be good enough. (I run a 27” UHD 4K monitor in this mode.)
  3. ”like 3008x1692” - more workspace, at the cost of smaller text

Your tag line says that your MBP has a M2 Pto chip, which means it could drive a second monitor. Say, a 24” 1920x1080 monitor that has a stand that lets it run in portrait mode (rotated by 90 degrees, so it is 1920 pixels tall and 1080 pixels wide). That one wouldn’t have enough resolution / PPI to be useful in anything but native resolution, but still might make a useful side display.

Thanks, I don't know if this will meet my needs or not till it arrives. I've read about apps that help with scaling and was hoping to get some advice around whether these work well or not. As it happens a friend has a 5k2K monitor albeit a better spec'd monitor (and more expensive) but feels it works great...? Not sure I want (or can even afford) to spend £4K on an apple monitor. Thanks for taking the time to respond.
