I purchased a gift for a friend and got a gift receipt with purchase. However, they received the same product from a family member and tried to return the gift with the gift receipt. However, they were. Told that too much time had passed (3 weeks) and could not exchange it or get a gift card in exchange. Is this standard practice?

As far as I know, the info. available is mostly in this Apple Support article (link below) and the Shopping help website. Eg: Article below says you can cancel a gift up to two days before it is to be sent, and you can resend a gift, if recipient can't find the mail with the link. I didn't see anything at all about gift returns though.

Sorry to say ... seems indeed that too much time really has elapsed since the gift was sent / received.
