Ecosia is now my unauthorized search englne

Ecosia suddenly is my Mac search engine and it will not change

All the previous go-to solutions say I can change browser search engine. It offers four search engines but not safari. this all started when Ecosia out of nowhere is now my default search engine and I cannot find or remove the app. I suspect Google is behind this.

Safari is a web browser, which is different from a search engine. For example: Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge are web browsers, while Google and Bing are their associated search engines. The default search engine for Safari is typically Google search, if you're looking to return it to its default state.

Tom -- It's good to know the difference between web browsers and search engines, but this doesn't answer the question. My Safari and Yahoo are working fine, but suddenly Ecosia appeared, against my wishes. There is no obvious way to get rid of it. I have tried all the suggested methods without results. About a week ago I found an address for Ecosia online and wrote to ask them to delete it. The page said it would take a few days to do it, but I have not heard from them since. In looking at this site, I see that all the history of questions about cancelling Ecosia has itself been deleted, and your reply above does not answer it. Is there a legal issue of trademark, developer, ownership, etc. that prevents this question from being answered?

Do you mean it's always using Ecosia despite setting your search engine to something else, or that it's simply an available option in the list?
