Updating a NEW Mac:
How exactly is this "New"? Is this Mac new, and out-of-the-box? Or is it a previously-owned Mac that is new to you? And what is the model? Identify your Mac mini model - Apple Support. If older, then it may be incompatible with a newer macOS version.
IMPORTANT: Be certain you create a Time Machine Backup of your Mac prior to making any major change to it, whatsoever. That way you can have something to restore it from, should anything go working afterwards.
