I am trying to set up an imac after doing the erase procedure prior to passing it on to a family member. At the activate stage it says the computer is still associated with my apple account. What have I done wrong and how can I resolve the problem?
Thanks, I had done all that but it was still associated with my account for some reason. I have managed to remove it from my list of devices from another account (had to switch off Find My and Theft Protect temporarily to do that) and that solved the issue. Computer is now happily with its new owner.

Follow steps 1-6 at > What to do before you sell, give away, trade in, or recycle your Mac - Apple Support
Then let or help the family member setup the iMac using their Apple ID.
Once you have done all the work my colleagues @ den.thed has supplied
Once the computer reboots and Setup Assist is presented
Power OFF the computer using the Power Button
The Next time it is started up.
Setup Asset will be presented again for the Family member to experience the joys of setting up the computer
