Is your Mac using a QWERTY keyboard? Occasionally, a Mac reverts to a QWERTY keyboard after an update or a reinitialization.
In the upper right of the screen, see if you can click on the keyboard icon to choose the right keyboard (for the US keyboard the icon states "US", for other keyboards it is an abbreviation of the keyboard language.)
