Adding events to contacts and automatically put them in calendar

Adding Birthday events to Contacts which automatically puts them in Calendar works perfectly, but, right under Add Birthday, when editing a contact is Add Date, when you expand on that, it shows Anniversary with month date and year... when you enter the info, it does not import them into Calendar.

Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

I wouldn't call it a bug but rather a design choice on Apple's part. It's been that way as long as I can remember. I think if it had been a bug, it would have been fixed by now.

Your only option at present is to add the event manually to your calendar and set it to recur annually.

You can also let Apple know (as I have) that you'd like to see a change in how this works:

Product Feedback - Apple

But I am not hopeful.

Then why have a spot for Anniversaries? I did enter them manually and have them reoccur yearly

Apple treats birthdays as a special, system-recognized field in Contacts.
That’s why:
They appear in the • Birthdays calendar
They show up in • Calendar → Other → Birthdays
• You can turn reminders on/off
• They sync across devices
• They support Siri alerts
This is the only date field that does this automatically.

I want to keep the birthdays... it's the anniversaries that don't show up unless I make them birthdays, but that's defeating the purpose.
