Turn off MIDI auto enable record Logic Pro 11

Hi, I just upgraded to Logic 11 and *really* need to turn off MIDI auto enable record. I often highlight tracks to look at their MIDI in order to play along on another track and match chord changes, etc. Now, doing this overwrites my previously perfect tracks! In settings, the only options are to enable this for ALL tracks or to the highlighted one. Apple, please, please please tell me I can disable this awful feature. Thanks so much!

While you may not be able to disable auto record enable, you can work around it by enabling Track Protect for the MIDI tracks - any tracks - that you don't want to inadvertently overwrite.

Add the Lock feature and icon to your track header using the Track menu > Configure Track Header... or Option+T (⌥T)

Usually "enabling Track Protect" shouldn't be necessary. I rarely use this option, and I've never overwritten midi.

  1. Go to Logic Pro > Settings > Recording > Overlapping Track Recordings. Select settings that works the best for you, however, don't select "Merge" in any of the options!
  2. Go to Logic Pro > Settings > Automation > Write mode changes to

Don't select "Write" here!
