Logic Pro sync recording when timecode stops
Hello.
I'm working on a theatre show with playback from Qlab as well as live musicians. Qlab sends timecode (for lighting synchronisation mainly but also other things) as well as tracks to the In Ear Monitors of the musicians. I can take this LTC timecode in to Logic via Lockstep which works perfectly. The playhead follows the timecode from Qlab.
I'm trying to create a recording which is perfectly in sync with the playback. I can do this two ways:
- Hit record at the top of the show, record all the audio via the sound desk in to Logic as well as the timecode audio. I then manually chop up the audio based on the timecode markers (1:00:00 for track 1, 2:00:00 for track 2 etc.) and move it all to the correct points on logics timeline. This is quite labour intensive and also requires me manually zoom in and figure out the exact point that each timecode audio starts. It works, but it doesn't feel very quick or efficient. I'm open to quicker ways of doing this but it really doesn't feel like I'm using the available tools properly.
- I can turn on Toggle Record and SMPTE sync. This means that whenever Logic receives timecode, it starts playing and recording and locates everything at the right place on the timeline, it also means there's no silence beforehand that I need to manually chop out. The only problem with this option is that there are points in the show were timecode stops and the musicians keep playing. When timecode stops it also stops the recording. I doubt there's a way around this but would love to know if anyone has a workaround.
Open to suggestions on the best way to go about this.
Thanks.
