Screen locked with view of my screenshot icons.

I am using Mac mini 2024 with Tahoe. 26.1. Some time ago I opened the map “screenshots” - skærmbilleder in Danish - and now I am unable to close this map. As a result my screen is covered with icons for screenshots. My mail program and other programs are unaffected. When I open the mail program it shows up with the “ frozen” screen as background. I have restarted the Mac and the mail program several times choosing not to open active programs - unfortunately without success. Please suggest methods/ procedures to solve my problem.

Restore your real Desktop folder

Do this first:

Go to Finder
In the top menu bar, click Finder → Settings
Go to the General tab
Look for “Desktop Folder” or “Replace Desktop with Folder” (depending on your language)
Set it back to Desktop or Min Mac → Skrivebord

If “Screenshots / Skærmbilleder” is selected here, that’s the cause.

After switching back, the screenshot icons will immediately disappear from the background.

In Folder I cannot find options Desktop folder or Replace Desktop folder.

Any further suggestions?
