Why does the 'allow pointer & keyboard to move to any nearby Mac or iPad' feature disconnect after a limited time?

Curious of others experience utilizing this feature under System Prefs->Displays: "allow pointer & keyboard to move to any nearby Mac or iPad"

So far it works great but only off/on. Seems like it only maintains connection for a limited time and then "breaks" connection. I have to keep going back into systems prefs and toggling the option to allow for this operation before it will reconnect. Is this a bug? I've tried this on two different Macs, both MBP, one a M3 Pro and the other a M4 Max.

Both are running Tahoe.
