Apps not opening in front???

Whenever I open a new app, or click on an application on my MacBook Pro, the app will not open in the front. I have to manually go and minimize each application open, to find the application I need. This is especially problematic when I am working between two applications as I cannot flip back and forth to each one. My computer is up to date. This started in the last two weeks and hasn't resolved on its own. THANK YOU for any tips you have.
