Is there a way to actually *block* (as in not showing up time and time again) an incoming texter? I am able to delete the texts and mark them as junk but nothing stops them from appearing. Can I somehow block all texts from the number sequence on the top left of the messages?

I use Bouncer app, which can select messages to mute by name, number and contents, including with regular expressions. It doesn't delete the messages, but it can file them where you won’t see them until you want to.
Can you block them?
Probably not, since the number that you see is very likely not the real number from which the texts are coming.
Spammers use special software to disguise the actual phone number or source of the texts, similar to junk phone calls.

Thank you for your dose of reality. It will help me manage my expectations of success. Maybe some of the texters will be less technically sophisticated (aka me for example) and I can annoy them as they annoy me! (turn about is fair play).
