Keep AppleCare+ after resetting iPhone 15 Pro

hi, I just bought an iPhone 17 Pro and I'd like to give my old iPhone 15 Pro to my partner (currently using an iPhone 13 Pro), so I went into Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone and selected "reset all content and settings" (so they can move all their data from their 13 Pro to the 15 Pro) but the confirmation screen says the AppleCare+ (w/ theft and loss protection, billed monthly) will be removed from the device.

is there any way to reset the iPhone and keep the current AppleCare+ plan active? or, alternatively, can I cancel the current plan, reset the iPhone, have my partner set it up with their AppleID and then re-subscribe?

thank you in advance, have a nice day

I believe that the message you are referring to is the warning that says “Deactivate theft and loss coverage?”

That’s because when you erase the phone you have to sign out of Find My. It doesn’t actually remove the AppleCare plan, it’s just warning you that if you file a theft or loss claim while Find My is disabled, the claim will likely be rejected. But once you erase it, once it is set up again and signed back into Find My, the theft and loss coverage will be valid again.
