Safari: Webpage reloaded due to significant energy use

Safari says "This webpage was reloaded because it was using significant energy."

Safari 16.6.1 (macOS Big Sur), Safari (iPadOS 15.8.4)

Keep seeing this alert in Safari, both Mac and iPad. The particular website is rather low-budget, so I suppose the coding might not be so tight. Is it causing any other problem I should look out for, or is there anything I can to do ameliorate the situation?

Other than Safari? No. It's limited to the web browser. Browsers other than Safari will just consume significant energy without informing you of that fact.

If it is your website, you can use Safari's Web Inspector to isolate the cause. It is usually one or more advertisements that you may have agreed to host. Once identifying the cause(s) you can take the appropriate actions with that content provider.

Advertising content creators are generally compensated for their ability to create attention-getting website code, which tends to demand copious amounts of processing power with the commensurate energy demands. You can ameliorate it by hiding distracting items as described in Hide distracting items on webpages in Safari - Apple Support. There are minimum system requirements. Third party content blockers can help, but none are completely effective, and all of them can result in unwanted behavior.
