A Trojan and a virus are 2 different things.
A Trojan is an application or file that claims to be something else, you download it and it is malware.
A virus doesn’t require any action by the user. You go to a website, view an email, etc. and get infected.
To access your email, your device doesn’t need to be infected or targeted. The provider may have fallen victim to an attack.
Why do you think your email is compromised?
There's no such thing as a Trojan virus. It's one or the other.
But no, it's not possible. Getting into anyone's email account requires getting access to both the email address and the user's password.
“I received an extortion email from hacker claiming, they got access to my email account, social media accounts and downloaded all my personal data and images etc.”
This scam has been around since the early days of windows and pc cameras.
Mark the email as spam and forget about it.
It is indeed a scam.
The messages are scam attempts, presented by criminals. Do not interact with the message or the sender. For information from Apple regarding such bogus messages, please read the information at the link below.

Hi Jonathan
Thank you for replying. I appreciate your response! I received an extortion email from hacker claiming, they got access to my email account, social media accounts and downloaded all my personal data and images etc. if I don’t send the $1650 in crypto currency, they will email and post ‘compromising’ images to family and friends to jeopardize my reputation. I don’t have anything to fear.
I believe it’s a scam but not sure.
Hi Kurt
Thank you for responding to my query!
I’ve checked my apple account. I’ve never received notification about my accounts getting accessed from other devices to make any changes which put me at ease. :)
As soon as you said "trojan virus", the first thing I thought of was the now (at least) three year old scam email/message that makes threats unless you pay some random amount of a ransom fee to a crypto account. stedman1 confirmed it.
This scam keeps changing. The bulk of the message stays the same, but it's been:
There have been a few others, and yours is new. At least, I haven't heard that one before.
Sounds like a common scam where the criminals lie their heads off to frighten victims into paying - when the criminals have nothing at all.
They may have sent this same scam message to thousands or millions of people, in hopes that a few would bite.
Still, it would not hurt to change the passwords of any accounts mentioned in the scam message. Sometimes accounts get compromised on the server side.

Yes, indeed. The email startled me initially. I thank God, he gave me good sense to start to reach out and inquire about it. I’d figured a few naive people will fall prey which is unfortunate.
I appreciate your feedback! Thank you!
That’s what I thought! Thsnk you for reassuring my instincts ☺️
You are quite welcome.
Stay alert.
It’s scary to think how many people fall for it. I’m so thankful I found this community to confirm my suspicions. ❤️
