MacBook Pro not supported via Bluetooth from my iPhone 16

I try to connect my iPhone 16 to my new MacBook Pro with Bluetooth and it tells me that "Simon's MacBook Pro is not supported." Why and what can be done about it? It seems incredible that two Apple products of recent date can't do this.

Macs and iPhones do not support Bluetooth pairing with each other. They work together in other ways: through iCloud synchronization, shared e-mail accounts, Continuity features, etc. Some of those may involve Bluetooth, but not in a pairing way,
