On a Mac, AirTags can only be removed from Find My once they’re fully offline and no longer paired to the device. When they still show any recent location or are actively linked, the Remove option won’t appear.

Try the following:

  1. On your Mac, open Find My and choose Items.
  2. Select the AirTag you want to remove.
  3. Make sure the AirTag is offline — it should say No Location Found or show an old timestamp. If it’s nearby or recently updated, physically move it out of range or remove the battery for a moment.
  4. Once it shows as offline, scroll down in the item’s details. The Remove Item button should appear.
  5. Click Remove and confirm.

If you still don’t see this option, it usually means the AirTag is still linked to another Apple ID or hasn’t gone fully offline yet. In those cases, powering it down by removing the battery for 10–15 seconds almost always forces the option to appear.
