Question

Restore Backup = Revert iOS 26.1?

Will restoring my iPhone from pre-iOS 26.1 backup effectively allow me to revert iOS 26.1? This OS is unbelievably laggy, buggy, and poorly designed.

NOPE. Backups do NOT contain the iOS version. Once you upgrade, there is no path back. So all you'd accomplish by restoring an older backup would be to restore the data (not the iOS version) on your phone from the date the backup was made, and you'll lose any data which was added to the phone after the date of the backup.

All you can do is move forward. Just today Apple released iOS 26.2 with many improvements, so give that a shot and see if it works better for you. If you do not see it available yet on your device, it may take longer before it shows up, but most have already seen it.
