Preparing for a transition from PC to Mac

I'm being coerced into moving from a PC to a Mac. So I have 20 + years of bias to start with, but also a comfortable environment within applications that I've mastered over time (MS Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) Yes, I know there are iOS versions! And countless others. Every change is a learning curve, of course, but just how bad will it be? What can/should I do now, before the change? I'm already thinking of having to download Mac versions of all the transferable applications, copying/saving/moving files from cloud to a new Mac. Yada Yada. Am I making too much of a big deal about this?

I’ll second the Apple Store … specifically any “Sessions” that might be offered nearby.

I was in the same 20+ years of MS-DOS and Windows -> Mac “forced” transition a number of years ago and the in-store Sessions helped immensely.

I still recall my own EXACT Aha! Moment of realization when everything came together in my head.

I travelled a lot professionally at the time and attended quite a few evening sessions at different stores around the country. All were very well done and helpful.

Twenty years is a lot of muscle memory to unlearn! 🙂

MacOS is different. File management is different. The Desktop environment is different. All of the functionality is there in macOS and applications, but the packaging and the presentation are different.

Keep a mind open to learning and rely on the guidance of those who have experience and you’ll be fine.

I think for you, using the Mac will be like riding a bicycle… but getting on it from the other side. 😄
