Change default case of spelling character by character in dictation mode?

On my Mac, can I change the default case of spelling character by character in dictation mode so that all characters appear in lowercase, instead of all caps?

You may or may not be able to use "Command mode" to ask Siri to "turn all caps off"

Wondering which MacOS version you are using, & whether you use Voice Control commands for dictation . Also: we don't lnow which app you are using dictation mode in. (eg: Messages / Text Edit etc.)

Eg: For MacOS Tahoe 26 : You can: Use Voice Control commands to interact with your Mac - Apple Support

says:

" ... commands, ... vary depending on the app you’re working in and what you’re doing.

For example, when writing a document, you see text formatting commands.>

"See what commands you can use

Display a list of the available commands, which vary depending on the app you’re working in and what you’re doing. For example, when writing a document, you see text formatting commands.

 Voice Control: Say “Show commands”.

"To browse the full list of supported commands and see examples of how to use them, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, click Accessibility  in the sidebar, click Voice Control, then click Commands. (You may need to scroll down.)"

I've been using voice control for a few years now with all of the different OS versions which is currently 26.2. I dictate into Safari, mail, reminders, messages, pages, numbers, maps, calendar, notes, textedit, and Revit in a Windows virtual machine. I can change the case of any dictated text with voice commands, but every time I spell a word character by character in dictation mode, the resulting word is typed in all caps. It is tedious to keep telling the computer to make it lowercase. It would be super cool if I could set that as a default.

Thank you kindly for filling is in with more details. You are obviously well-experienced in using Voice Over! It is people like you who use the software often who generally know so much more about what's possible than many of us who do our best to try to assist.

All caps may or may not be the default mode, yet it seems unlikely to be the default.

Fortunately, Apple Support documents many facets of Voice Over in articles available online. Eg: Apple Support's online article for MacOS Tahoe 26 (link below) may help you with customising settings or changing a setting to its default. Eg: "VoiceOver Utility is the app you use to customise VoiceOver settings".
