Final Cut Pro Metadata Issue

I'm working on a sports highlight reel, but I'm having trouble with metadata. I have one long clip, and I'm using the blade tool to split it into segments. I made some custom metadata fields, too. I select the segment and fill out the metadata fields, but it also adds the metadata to all the other segments, including the main clip.

I know that all of the segments and the main clip are linked together because they're all from the same source file, but I don't know how to unlink the clips. Can someone help me fix this?

Don't use *custom* metadata fields unless you need that metadata to be applied to all instances of a clip, including the Event Browser and all applied clips and subclips in the storyline.

I would recommend the following:

Reel, Scene, Take, Camera Name, Camera Angle, Location and Notes. You can also use Name in the storyline and it won't affect any other bladed clips or the Event Browser version. (Just because these have "set" names doesn't mean you cannot use them for whatever information you like!) However, if you add metadata info to a clip and then blade it, the custom metadata will "carry over" to the new subclip.

These metadata fields can be applied to the Basic, General and Extended Information Inspectors *and* you can drag 'n' drop them in any order you like to make them more immediately accessible.
