Ian,

one could enter a number in mm, hit ENTER and that entered number would convert into its imperial number. Does this make sense and is it even possible? Or would I need to use more “cells”? Maybe enter a mm value in one cell and have the formula for conversion in another cell?

You need more cells to contain the conversion formula(s) and display the result(s). The easiest way, so you don't have to worry about getting the conversion factors right, is to use the CONVERT function, something like this:

In this simple example, I entered this in B2, and filled (or copied) it down the column.

=CONVERT(A2,"mm","in")

CONVERT can do lots of other conversions too. More here, with examples:

Ian,

‘Thanks for responding to my need for help. Much appreciated.

‘I’m not familiar with the “screenshots” you sent. What I was asking for was a way to configure a formula of sorts that would convert a metric NUNBER, in this case, millimeters, into an imperial number. Hopefully buried in a Numbers spreadsheet cell. I.e. one could enter a number in mm, hit ENTER and that entered number would convert into its imperial number. Does this make sense and is it even possible? Or would I need to use more “cells”? Maybe enter a mm value in one cell and have the formula for conversion in another cell?
