Apple Can’t Trust Its Apple Graphics Driver Update?

I have an external DVD drive for my Mac Mini 1 running Sequoia 15.7.2). After not using the DVD driver for a year or so, I powered it up, but the device was not recognized by the Mac (first time this has happened, BTW).

After digging around the net, I discovered that Apple released a Graphics Driver Update with coverage for my OS. I downloaded it from here: Graphics Driver Update: Information and Download - Apple Support

Unfortunately, my system refused to open the install package because — I kid you not — ”Apple could not verify [the package] is free of malware that may harm your Mac or compromise your privacy.”

I looked for an updated update, but no luck. What now?

The driver you downloaded was for 1 specific Mac OS version 10.2.8 released 22 years ago. It was never used since and incorporated in future versions of MacOS. That update is no longer a signed piece of software that would pass the standard checks found in Sequoia. Not sure who told you that Graphics Driver was intended to be installed on Sequoia, but they were wrong.

That driver is not the answer for you, so it may help to know what model DVD drive that you have.
