Contacts app Tahoe on Macbook Pro, flickering colors/strobing -

The background in the Contacts app flickers or strobes. Very unpleasant. I see a few posts about it here, but no solutions.

Anybody know a way to shut it off? Permanently?

Why would anyone make such a disturbing, distracting background?
