My elderly friend has an iPhone 14 Pro Max and has forgotten his passcode. The phone has now locked him out. I went on a computer to see if it was backed up to iCloud which it is. The phone is saying reset. I didn’t want to reset as worried he may lose his data which he doesn’t want. Please help as he loves listening to his audio books.

Sorry, but resetting the iPhone is the only option to be able to use it again:
If you forgot your iPhone passcode or your iPhone is disabled - Apple Support
But, you can redownload apps and content from Apple again:

There’s a way to unlock it without resetting the iphone, happened to my grandfather and it was resolved and everything came back intact
