Can't swipe to delete email on MacBook since upgrading to Tahoe

Since I upgraded to Tahoe, I cannot swipe to delete emails on my MacBook Air. I have restarted the mail application and I have restarted the computer, but that has not solved the problem. I have carpal tunnel syndrome, which is aggravated by clicking.
