Changing community display name not possible in 2025?

Users don't have the capability to change their username themselves. But I have made the request on behalf of you to our Community Employees. You will be given a temporary random user and you will receive the request to your email.

Changing user community name has never been possible. Think of the confusion and misuse if this was possible.

I will advise the community hosts of your desire to change names.

I see others have already notified the mods for your request. I am sure you could imagine the problems that would arise if a user could spam or troll others and then simply change their Username to pretend like it never happened. Luckily that is not the case here and there are controls in place to prevent that.

I cannot believe, that this is not possible by default in this service of a multi billion dollar company.

We are other end users, not Mods. All we can do is share our experiences and observations. We cannot give you an official answer to "why does Apple..." questions.

My observation and experience: That privilege was removed for cause.

I've been here long enough to remember when users could change usernames at will. Certain people abused it to harass helpful contributors, using multiple aliases a day to attack. That drove away a number of contributors who were key components of our Community knowledge base. I was there, and it was a very bad, sad time.

The Mods were forced to gate-keep that duty to maintain the peace and preserve the invaluable wealth of knowledge here.
