How to disable inline attachment viewing in Mail on macOS 26.1?

I’m running macOS 26.1 Tahoe (Build 25B78) and I want to prevent Apple Mail from displaying attachments inline in emails.

The issue: Mail has an annoying behavior where inline images in HTML emails are displayed twice—once in their intended position within the email body, and again at the end of the message where all attachments are shown inline. I want attachments to appear only as download icons instead.

I’ve tried setting the preference via defaults:

defaults write ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing -bool true

The setting appears in the plist file (confirmed with defaults read), but I haven't been able to verify whether Mail actually respects this setting or if it's being ignored.

I closed Apple Mail before I changed the setting and reopened it afterwards, but it is not working.

Is there a way to disable attachments being shown as inline attachment ath the end of the message in macOS 26?
