Cannot print using Brother MFC-L8850CDW

My MFC-L8850CDW has been working very well ever since I purchased it and as I am not a heavy user, it should have several years use left in it.

Suddenly it is no longer connecting with my iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015), running OSX 10.14.4 .

I have tried re-installing the latest software and drivers from the relevant Brother download page, but when I try to add the printer (both USB and Airprint), a message appears which first states that it is setting up the printer and then states that it is unable to download the software – so I have to cancel.

This is very frustrating!

I would be very grateful if anyone could let me know how I can have my MFC-L8850CDW fully functioning again, as soon as possible.

Thank you very much.

Yours sincerely,

M H A Thomson.

After exploring this link:

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT203343#reset

I reset the printing system – and was then able to set up firstly Airprint (with the USB lead disconnected) and then secondly the CUPS connection with the USB leade connected.

Perseverance pays!
