Group Facetime XR

I just bought an Iphone XR in April 2019 and whenever I am facetiming someone and then try to add someone else to the facetime, it does not allow me to (the option is there but it won't let me press it), therefore I have to hang up on the person I am already facetiming and start with a group one from the beginning. Why is this occurring/how do i fix it so I can just add someone?

See if you can find a solution here-->Use Group FaceTime on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support. Note that everyone on the call (or that you want to add) must have iOS 12.1.4 or later. Your Xr certainly does, but do any other participants (or potential participants) have it?
