Can't text to android

I just bought an iPad air and can't text to an Android. I have an iPhone 6. How do I fix the problem? I've looked online, but answers directly me to options that don't show on my devices. Help😩

Your iPad must coordinate with your iPhone to send or receive SMS texts (the method used to communicate to Androids).
