phone wont unlock

when i try to unlock my phone it says " your password is required to enable Touch ID" what password is this because ive tried my 6 digit that usually unlocks my phone and my apple id password.

iPhone 7, iOS 12

It undoubtedly says "passcode", not "password".

You need your passcode, which is generally 6 digits.
