Messages Badge Icon show unread message where there is none

On my iMac my Messages badge shows an unread message. When I try to go to it it doesn't take me anywhere so I can delete it. That number, 697-348 is from the local power company and used to notify of outages. I deleted al of them yet the badge persists.

I have tried the Terminal Command Killall Dock, no luck. Have quit Messages, turned off Notifications then restarted, no luck. Have deleted all messages from all devices, no luck.

iMac 27", OS X 10.11

Solved!

I entered the first 3 digits of that number into the Address Bar of Messages on my iPhone, the phone auto-completed the rest of the number. I then clicked on the Information icon and then Delete number from memory. I had to do it twice, until it stopped auto-completing. The badge then disappeared from my Messages Application on my iMac.

Apparently it was in the iPhone's memory which manifested itself on the iMac.

Since the killall Dock didn't work, you need to look in your user Library/Application Support/Dock for the .db. Use the Finder “Go To Folder” command. Enter ~/Library/Application Support/Dock. Move the .db to your desktop.

Then try a dock reset.

Applications/Utilities/Terminal enter the command

killall Dock

Log out/in test. If it works okay, delete the .db from the desktop.

If the Dock is the same, return the .db to where you got them from, overwriting the newer ones.
