A friend of mines father passed away and he is trying to reset his iPad so that he is able to use it. They do not know the password to the father Apple ID so they are not able to just reset it themselves. Is there anyway they can reset the iPad to factory mode so they can use it?

The iPad is Activation Locked and it can't be bypassed. If his father didn't write down the Apple ID and Password somewhere for future recall, the only way he will be able to use the iPad is to provide the following documentation to Apple and ask them for help:

  1. The father's death certificate
  2. The original purchase receipt validating he was the original purchaser
  3. A letter from his estate saying the son is now the legal owner of the iPad
