i would really like my widgets on my home screen but it’s not allowing me to do so. I only have the option to swipe right. I’ve tried to edit the today’s view but it only lets me view when I swipe.

Perhaps you’ve seen some of the numerous exciting previews of what’s coming with iOS 13? When it’s available, I believe the word is you’ll have the option of having some (that you choose) of your widgets right there on your home screen, as you’re trying to do now...
For the time being, however, they’re easily available, as your’e getting them by having to swipe.

It is not possible to have widgets on the home screen.
That's how it's designed and hard coded in iOS and cannot be changed.
iPads will get iPadOS not iOS 13.
So, it’ll only be iPadOS and not iOS 13 which will get widgets on the home page? Seems I didn’t pay close enough attention. I’m sorry! I stand corrected!
