iPhone Xs max crops video in landscape mode

In the last week or so my iPhone Xs max, iOS 12.4.1, has started cropping TV video in landscape mode. It displays the full frame in portrait mode but crops a bit off the top and bottom of the frame when turned to landscape. It always used to display the full frame in landscape.

In landscape not all screen space is used and the cropped frame is pinned to the top of the screen. A double tap on the screen expands the width of the frame to the width of the screen, but it stays pinned to the top of the screen and the top and bottom remain cropped despite available screen space. Going to zoomed mode did not influence the crop.

Looking for suggestion on how to get the phone to display full frame TV in landscape mode.

Today Spectrum updated the Spectrum TV app to fix the problem. It now displays correctly in landscape ... no cropping at the top and bottom of the streaming video frame and uses all the available screen while maintaining the correct aspect ratio.

Thanks for the reply SravanKrA

  1. Watching television (streaming live TV video) on the iPhone using app (see #4). I don't have any videos per se on my phone. I did check UTube using Safari and it displays similar behavior. Perhaps I should download the UTube app and see if there is the same frame cropping problem in Landscape.
  2. I'm not cropping videos. The TV video frame is cropped when I rotate the phone to watch in Landscape. There is no recording involved, just watching live TV from my cable provider.
  3. Not sure I understand your question; it may be NA as I'm just watching video streams.
  4. The app is called Spectrum TV which can be downloaded from the AppStore. Spectrum is the name of the cable provider and the app is for their customers to watch cable TV on the iPhone. The beginning of the issue did not seem to coincide with an app update. I am using the current version the current version. I have sent a note to Spectrum but, being a cable company, they have not responded as yet.

Hope I've answered your questions. Thanks for thinking about this.
