MacBook Pro freezes and shuts down during normal use

Hello,

Yesterday I experienced a strange issue. My mid-2014 15in MacBook Pro randomly froze and shut down about 30 seconds later without any input from me. Since then, it hasn't gone 15 minutes without freezing and shutting down in the same fashion.

I reset the SMC, NVRAM, and even wiped the computer and reinstalled MacOS, to no avail.

Any ideas on what is going on? Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Thanks a ton.

Cheers,

Hi,

Is there a possibility your MacBook Pro has hardware related issue. Try to check with Apple Diagnostic if it reports something.

Also please paste the crash log which is located at /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/

Hi kaz-k, thanks for your response.

I ran Apple Diagnostics on my computer, and it gave me the reference code PPT002, which makes sense because I haven't replaced my battery. Is there any chance that it is part of the issue? I did test the computer while it was connected to AC power, and it still crashed and shut down.

I couldn't find a crash log.

Thank you very much for your help.

Solved. So I had the same problem, screen freezing, sometimes curser moves, happens after a few minutes, I couldn’t install most recent update, I tried freeing up disk space, starting up on Safe Mode, aimlessly looked at the Log Files, then I found somewhere on this site where they suggested the following steps:

System Preferences->Icloud->Manage->Icloud Photos—>Disable and Delete

I restarted computer, solved. Dowloaded the most recent update. Now I am going to Undo the Icloud Photo “Disable and Delete” to see if I can replicate and solve the problem again.

I will report back.

If this works for anyone please reply amd let us know.
