you can take out the harddisk and put it in an external exclosure and connect it to another mac and move the photos to it's harddisk

Thanks. Not sure if that will work as the reason the iMac won't work is because of the Graphics card, so the screen won't show me anything.
Target Disk Mode may still work with no display. Just start the computer with the T key depressed.
