prevent iTunes from autmatically backup iPhone

Hey, is there a non-convoluted way of preventing iTunes from hassling me about backup up the iPhone?

All I want to do is sync music. Period. I simply don't have a spare 250Gbytes of space to back up the iPhone.

However, wheneve I plug the iPhone into my MacBook - iTunes instantly wants to back up the iPhone.

I want to sync music - not back up.

Okay, this worked. I opened terminal and typed the following command line:

defaults write com.apple.iTunes DeviceBackupsDisabled -bool true

After that the forced backups were not included when syncing my iPhone.

That doesn't work at all. So, after checking the 'prevent automatic sync' (preferences --> Devices) - then plugging in the iPhone to my MacBook (where iTunes resides)- and ONLY selecting "sync" iPhone (right-click iPhone icon) it still says something like '2 of 5 Backing-up'. - then I get a message saying there isn't enough space to back up my iPhone.

Again. I do not want to back up my iPhone. I want to sync music only.

So, I guess the answer is this: the backups are forced no matter what. =(
