Restoring photos from Carbonite to a MacBook Pro

Hello, I'm not a computer guy at all... which is why I purchase Mac. My old MacBook pro is probably 12 years old, and until just recently worked flawlessly. The hard drive crashed, and now my 12,000+ photos are gone, except they are backed up on Carbonite. My problem is that when I go to restore the photos on to the new Mac, it says that I can't because the file format is not supported.

This has been the problem with all online backup facilities and iPhoto or Photos libraries. The format of the storing servers do no keep the complex permissions and links that are present in a Photos library.

You should be able to restore the image files themselves and use those to create a new library. But do not use Carbonite as the backup for it. You should use an external HD and Time Machine.
